Preference Leningrad (Piter) - how does it differ from other versions?
Leningrad is a game for those who love risk. Here, points “in the mountain” and “vists” are counted and recorded in double value. This is the main difference from Sochi and Rostov. It makes the game dynamic and unpredictable. The second key difference is the “gentlemen’s vist” and the half-responsibility rule on vists, which means that the defender, for failing to take enough tricks, gets not double the penalty “in the mountain” as the declarer does, but only a single one. On a six contract it’s two in the mountain, on a seven - four. All earned vists are divided in half.
How are points “in the mountain” and “vists” calculated in Leningrad (Piter)?
In the Leningrad version of Preference, vists against the player and points “in the mountain” for missing tricks are counted in double value from the game’s cost. For example, if you play a seven contract, the player receives 8 points in the mountain for each missed trick and 8 vists are recorded for each trick on defense. In Sochi and Rostov, for a seven contract, only 4 points are written in the mountain. The “mountain” in a misère in Leningrad is also doubled - 20 in the mountain for each trick.
When does a game of Preference Leningrad (Piter) end?
In this version of Preference, the game continues until the total number of points in all players’ pools reaches the declared target number multiplied by the number of players. For example, if you play with three players up to 30 in the pool, the total of all players’ pool points must reach 90.
Leningrad or Piter is a variation of Preference where the game is played against the declarer. What are its features? First, “passing” (misère) is the most expensive game. Second, the rules are maximally strict toward the declarer. Third, a “progressive lead” applies during the misère round.

Main features:
As a rule, in Leningrad a semi-responsible vist is played: for a failed vist, half the cost of the game is written to the mountain.

Gentlemen’s vist: if the declarer fails (when one defender was on the vist and the other passed), both defenders split all vists equally - both the consolation and the vists for the actual tricks taken. Vists are divided “gentlemanly” regardless of whether the game was played openly or in the dark.

Passing to the mountain and exiting from passes: when creating a game, you can choose parameters 6-6-6, 6-7-7, or 6-7-8, which define the minimum number of tricks to be declared by each player in subsequent rounds, as well as the number of penalty points to the mountain for each trick taken. Passing is overruled by a successfully played contract;
In a passing game, one card of the talon is opened and determines the suit for the first two rounds (the rank of the card is not considered). The player with the right of the first move plays next;
End of the pool: in Leningrad, the game continues until the total of all pool records reaches the agreed value multiplied by the number of players. A player who hasn’t reached the average must add to the mountain double the difference between his actual pool score and the average. The player who exceeded the average deducts his difference from the mountain - also doubled.

The rules of Preference allow stopping the game and making a general settlement at any moment, as well as continuing even after the pool is closed. However, game etiquette requires finishing the pool according to the chosen end condition.
When players reach the chosen end condition, the game stops, and one of them “writes the pool”: calculates, based on all records, the result of each player in vists. When playing for stakes, the calculated number of vists is multiplied by the agreed value per vist, and according to the etiquette of card gaming, players must immediately settle their debts.
